Firefighting
This competition evaluates students’ preparation for firefighting careers through hands-on skill demonstrations and both written and oral presentations. Areas tested include: safety; breathing apparatus; fire streams; ladders, ropes, knots and hoses; fire control; ventilation; emergency medical care and rescue; and protecting fire cause evidence. Competitors are evaluated using standards established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

The SkillsUSA Illinois Championships follow the current edition of the SkillsUSA National Technical Standards. These are available to professional members (advisors and teachers) following membership registration.
